Goddess Lakshmi: Everyone wants to serve and please Her

It is said that money makes many things. It is indisputable that we take care of the basic necessities of life like food, clothing and shelter with the help of money. But how satisfied are we with wealth alone without being peaceful, successful, wise, brave, healthy and content? Can money buy all of these for us? No! What if there is someone who can bless us not just with material prosperity but also bestow upon us all the other intangible gifts that money can't buy? Sounds too good to be true? Read on!

Every individual (either directly or indirectly) awaits a loving glance from Her to prosper in life. She adorns the glorious chest of Sri Maha Vishnu and is His eternal consort. She is the lokapavani (the purifier of worlds), Sri Maha Lakshmi. She is not just the goddess of wealth but also the goddess of success, intelligence, compassion, purity, righteousness, wisdom, truth, spiritual strength and bliss. She blesses Her sincere devotees with the comfort and happiness of all the aspects of both the material and spiritual planes.

A simple prayer as following recited with a faithful heart will attract Sri Maha Lakshmi's compassion.

Mantra:

“Lakshmeem ksheera samudra raja thanayam, Sri rangadhaameswareem, Dasi bhootha samastha deva vanithaam, Lokaika deepthanguraam, Sriman manda kataksha labdha, Vibhava brahmendra gangadaraam, Twaam trilokya kutumbinim sarasijaam, Vande mukunda priyaam”

Translation:

“Salutations to Goddess Lakshmi, Who is the daughter of the king of the milk ocean, Who is the consort of the Lord of Sri Ranga, Whose maids are the deva maidens, Who is the lighthouse of the entire world, Whose sidelong glances bestow fame to Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva and Lord Indra, Whose family consists of all the three worlds, Who appears in the lotus pond and Who is the beloved of Lord Mukunda.”

Lakshmi Gayatri mantra:

The following is the Lakshmi Gayatri mantra suitable for recitation by the people who are initiated by a guru into chanting of the Gayatri mantra:

“Om Mahadevyaicha Vidhmahe Vishnu Pathniyaicha Dheemahe Thanno Lakshmi Prachodayath”

Translation:

“Let me meditate on the greatest goddess. May the wife of Lord Vishnu give me higher intellect. And let Goddess Lakshmi illuminate my mind.” It is important to note that any mantra recitation generates immense energy and the same needs to be returned to the universe in the form of tarpan or in the form of blessings to the near and dear. The reciter can give away the energy to the universe through tarpan by reciting “tatsa brahmarpana mastu” at the end of the mantra recitation. One can also distribute the energy through rays by blessing the near and dear. Whenever the energy tarpan is performed to the universe, one receives blessings from the universe.

Appropriate way to worship Goddess Lakshmi:

• To please Sri Maha Lakshmi, it is inevitable to keep the house clean and peaceful, respect elders and women, be loving to youngsters, be honest in one's work and to worship Her along with Sriman Narayana with a sincere heart for both the material and spiritual growth.
• Offer a lamp, fresh flowers, incense, sandalwood, kumkum and fruits (if available) to the deity form or picture of goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu.
• Vibhishana worshipped goddess Lakshmi (Sita) along with Lord Vishnu (Rama), whereas, Ravana wanted only Lakshmi bereft of Her consort and the rest is history!
