Lord Ganesha is revered as the Lord of beginnings as he is the remover of obstacles. He is the patron of learning, intellect, wisdom and also known as Ganapti or Vighneshwara. Ganesha the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati mounts on a mouse and is having an elephant head.
Ganesha is associated with the following-
Om (Aum) - Om which is the most primal sound of all is a form of Lord Ganesha. The shape of Om is also similar to Ganapati.
First Chakra – Out of seven chakras in human body Ganesh resides in first and foremost chakra called Muladhara. He supports, governs and guides rest six chakras.
Wisdom (Buddhi) – There are various stories about Lord Ganesha’s fondness towards intellect in Puranas and other auspicious Hindu texts. He is also known with the name of Buddhipriya.
Obstacles – Lord Ganesha is worshipped at the start or beginning of new tasks as he is known to remove obstacles in the path of good.
Lord Ganesha is described as the supreme self in Upnishads. His head describes the soul and his body describes Maya. He holds a goad in his upper right hand to propel mankind forward and to remove obstacles. In his left hand he holds a noose to capture difficulties. Ganesha is also referred as Ekdanta in many religious texts because of his single tusk, the other being broken. He holds his broken tusk as pen in lower right hand which is a symbol of sacrifice as he broke one of his tusks to use it as a pen for writing Mahabharata. Flower in his other left hand indicates the continuity of the pursuit of knowledge. Laddoos are his favorite sweet; he keeps them in his trunk which signifies the sweetness of soul.
