Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja

There is a custom to worship Goddess Lakshmi and lord Ganesha on Deepawali or Diwali. Individuals embellish their house and request Goddess Lakshmi to come and visit them. The word 'Deepawali is composed of two words - Deepa meaning Light and Avali meaning a Row. It means a row of lights with illumination as its main attraction. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
